Five years ago life opened up and let the sun in.

Many years had been spent running after the three pixies, moving on from years of sadness, frustration and conforming to what I believed  – the only choice I had. I hopped on the plane and headed east to squam artworkshops. It was the very first year that Elizabeth brought a little over 100 creative, spirited and colorful beings together. In a little camp, on a happy lake called squam.

There I met the long haired beauty above. Jennifer and I took Andrea Scher’s photography class. It rained, it was cold and all I wanted to do was go back to my cabin and build a fire. But jennifer warmed the class right up. her quiet, kindness grabbed onto me and 5 years later we still adore one another. connection.

Five years ago life opened up and let the sun in.

What began as attending a few retreats has turned into teaching at retreats. Getting to hop on that plane and sit with other creatives, painting, telling and holding has added to that connection from 5 years ago.

seven. connection. love. (how connection opens up life.)

  • one. gathering allows for new friendships, fresh perspective and softening of the heart.
  • two. opening up your creative network brings in new ideas, creatives happy collaboration and new adventure
  • three. soften the heart
  • four. challenge ourselves to move forward in a way would would have never thought possible
  • five. opens new doors of opportunity.
  • six. shines happy support, that on some days it totally a gift.
  • seven. it simply adds new color to your daily grind
The year after squam, I headed west to the unearth retreat, with Liz Lamoreux. Jennifer headed west too. There we met the amazingly creative and sweet Mindy Lacefield.  The connection that happened in that little house by the sea was one of the biggest gifts in my newly opened life. Chickadees from all over this land who sat for meals, hugged for support, painted with joy and left there with a scarf that bonded us. That can sound kind of sappy. but the truth is the truth. Each time I leave a retreat, whether I am teaching or attending, I leave with a pocket full of new faces, friendships and adventure ahead.
Today. Liz and I will be putting twinkle lights up and around a little lodge, deep in the woods where the trees are filled with green green moss. Welcoming new faces at the door and some familiar faces from the very first unearth retreat.  We will gather, create, tell our stories and connect. Laughter and tears will fill each pocket carried home. Liz holding space, sharing words of home. Mindy and I adding our color each day, while the others spill their own onto their pages.

Connection. Coming full circle, opening up our view. Holding space for the next day. Creating new adventures and adding new faces to our life’s rolodex.
